8 days, 12GB: how to activate in Malaysia, before you fly
- Insert the SIM into slot one. On a dual SIM phone it must be slot one.
- Turn on Mobile Data and Data Roaming, then open any website.
- Leave the SIM in for 5 to 20 minutes until an activation SMS arrives. That SMS is your confirmation that it worked.
- Use the SIM in China or Macau within 30 days of activation.
Your 8 days of data start only when you arrive in China or Macau, not when you activate.
15 days, 15GB: how to set up after you land
- Leave the SIM in its packaging until you arrive in China or Macau.
- On arrival, insert the SIM into slot one.
- Turn on Mobile Data and Data Roaming. Settings > Mobile Networks.
Your 15 days start the moment you insert the SIM, so do not insert it before you travel.
The difference between the two plans: the 8 day plan slows to 512kbps once the 12GB is used and cannot be topped up. The 15 day plan cuts off once the 15GB is used and can be topped up, with instructions in the packaging.
Both plans: no registration required, data only so no calls or SMS, and hotspot is supported. Networks are China Unicom in China and CTM in Macau. Access popular apps in China without a separate VPN. Gemini AI is unavailable. TikTok works on iPhone only and is not available on Android.
