Japan KDDI eSIM Setup Guide

Set up your Japan KDDI eSIM before you fly, then land connected.

Before you start

  1. Connect to the internet and install your eSIM before you fly.
  2. If it shows “Activating”, don’t worry. It will activate once you arrive in Japan.
  3. Tap and hold is only available on iOS 17.4 or later for QR code installations or links.

For iPhone

  1. 1

    Tap and hold the QR code in your email, then choose Add eSIM.

    Tap Allow.

    Give the eSIM a label.

    Choose this eSIM as your Mobile Data line.

    Under Mobile Data, select Travel.

    Turn off your Primary line while you are overseas, and turn it back on once the travel eSIM is active.

For Android

  1. 1

    Tap and hold the QR code in your email, then choose Add plan to phone.

    Tap Add.

    The eSIM is added and switched on.

    Go back and choose Mobile data > eSIM 1.

Troubleshooting

It says “Activating”

Don’t worry. It will activate once you arrive in Japan.

Why turn off the Primary line?

Turning off the Primary line overseas helps smoothen the activation process. Re-enable it once the travel eSIM is activated.

Tap and hold is not working

Tap and hold is only available on iOS 17.4 or later for QR code installations or links. On Android, take a screenshot of the QR code and tap and hold on the saved image instead.
