Common questions

Do I have to collect anything at the station?

No, and that is the main reason to choose this pass. You link it to JR West's WEST QR website before you travel and scan your phone at the gate. There is no machine to queue at on arrival.

Does it cover the Shinkansen?

No. The Kansai Area Pass covers no Shinkansen and no limited express other than the Kansai-Airport Express HARUKA. If you need the bullet train, our JR West Area Rail Passes listing has the WIDE and regional passes that do.

How do I get a seat on HARUKA?

Book it on the WEST QR website, any time from 30 days before departure until three minutes before. Station machines and counters cannot do it for this pass. If the WEST QR seat allocation is full on your train, take a non-reserved seat or choose another service.
